Overview #
When you send emails from our platform, they need to come from somewhere — and by default, they come from a shared email address owned by us. While this works for most use cases, some clients prefer that the emails appear to come from their own domain. This is where email masking comes in.
Email masking allows you to make the sender email look like it’s coming from your domain, even though it’s technically being sent through our platform (powered by AWS SES). It helps build trust, improve branding, and increase engagement
What Is Email Masking? #
Email masking is the process of sending email on behalf of your domain, using our email infrastructure behind the scenes. For example, instead of seeing [email protected]
, your recipients might see [email protected]
— even though we’re still the ones handling the actual delivery.
Masking doesn’t change who sends the email technically — it just makes it look like it came from your domain. This requires some DNS configuration so that email providers (like Gmail or Outlook) can verify that we have permission to send on your behalf
Why Use Email Masking? #
Here are the key benefits of setting up email masking:
Benefit | What It Means |
---|---|
🎯 Brand consistency | Emails come from your domain, so recipients instantly recognise who it’s from |
✅ Increased trust | Users are more likely to open emails from a domain they know and trust |
📈 Higher engagement | Masked emails often get better open rates compared to shared sender addresses |
💼 Professional appearance | Your emails look more polished, aligned with your brand and identity |
🔐 Improved deliverability | When configured properly, email masking gives your messages a better chance of reaching the inbox instead of spam |
When Is Masking Right for You? #
Email masking is especially useful when:
- You want event attendees or customers to feel confident emails are really coming from your organisation.
- You have a brand reputation you want to protect or enhance.
- You’re sending transactional emails and need higher deliverability and visibility.
- You want to avoid confusion caused by generic sender names or shared domains
What’s Involved? #
Setting up email masking requires access to your DNS provider (like GoDaddy or Cloudflare) so that you can add a few verification records. This allows us to prove we’re allowed to send on your behalf. Don’t worry — we’ll walk you through the process step-by-step later in this section.
Summary #
Email Type | Sender Address | Trust Level |
---|---|---|
❌ Default sending | [email protected] | Lower trust, less branded |
✅ Masked sending | [email protected] | Higher trust, branded, recommended |
Email masking gives you full control over how your brand shows up in your audience’s inboxes. It requires a small amount of setup, but the payoff is better deliverability, brand trust, and engagement.
